Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
